From 1/1/2025 (HB 313, 2024) the barber board merged into the Board of Cosmetology and Barbering, and Miss. Code 73-7-13.1 sets 1,500 school hours or a 3,000-hour apprenticeship. SB 2566 (2026, signed) changed the education rule from high school to 10th grade, and licensed cosmetologists need 600 barber-school hours. The end of the practical exam comes from the board's Feb 2, 2026 notice, seen only as a search snippet because msbcb.ms.gov was down.
