MCL 339.1108 still requires 1,800 hours at a barber college or in an apprenticeship. HB 4927 would cut this to 1,500; it passed the House 103-0 in December 2025 but was in a Senate committee as of 1/14/2026 and is not law. Barber colleges and apprenticeship programs must get proof of a high school education before training starts, even though the license itself lists only 10th grade.
