Maine repealed its separate barbering license and its age and schooling minimums in 2019 (PL 2019 c. 373). The barber license is now Barber Hair Stylist: 800 school hours over at least 5 months, or 1,600 trainee hours over at least 10 months. Maine has no barber board (the program is run by a director), and the 1,500-hour cosmetology license also covers shaving, so no cosmetologist crossover is stated.
